Dental Aesthetics

The first purpose of smile design is to give a more ideal smile.
In aesthetic smile design, it is necessary to consider the gums, teeth and other parameters, to determine the existing irregularities and the elements that disrupt the aesthetics, and to provide the most suitable smile.

ZIRCONIA

WHAT ARE THE MATERIAL PROPERTIES OF ZIRCONIA (ZIRCONIUM DIOXIDE)?

Zirconium oxide (also known as high-performance ceramics or porcelain) is considered to be very dimensionally stable and unbreakable. In contrast to metal, it represents a highly aesthetic denture solution due to its material properties and translucency.

Any shade can be achieved using an individual layering technique, so that zirconium dentures resemble natural tooth enamel. Zirconium is non-corrosive, so it does not react with other metals or materials in the oral cavity. Due to the poor thermal conductivity of zirconium, the dental pulp (pulp) is protected from thermal stimuli. In addition, zircon has good biocompatibility and is therefore well suited for allergy sufferers.

ADVANTAGES OF ZIRCONIA AT A GLANCE:

  • Very natural looking white color and translucency that matches the esthetics of naturally grown teeth.
  • Particular stability and resilience of zirconium oxide – durability of bridges and zirconium crowns.
  • Good tolerance (biocompatibility) – Biologically neutral, compatible with tissue and mucous membranes, colour-stable and substance-friendly, does not generate any resonance frequency and is anti-allergenic.
  • Very low tendency to build up plaque due to the smooth surface of the high-tech ceramic.
  • Resistance to chemical, thermal and mechanical stimuli.

WHEN IS ZIRCONIA (ZIRCONIUM DIOXIDE, ZIRCONIUM DIOXIDE) USED?

In the case of tooth loss, cosmetic dentistry recommends filling gaps with dental implants. The all-ceramic dental bridge, on the other hand, is an option for severely damaged neighboring teeth (caries).

Zirconia dentures

Implants with a tooth crown made of all-ceramic are used especially in the area of the front teeth. This eliminates the greyish shimmering through of the titanium structure in the front tooth implant and the bionized zirconium does not offer any accumulation opportunities for plaque and tartar.

In summary, the following areas of application for zirconia in dentistry can be identified:

  • Dental crown
  • Dental bridges
  • Implant abutments
  • Inlays, onlays, veneers
EMPRESS (E.MAX)

A well thought out concept:

E.Max stands for many good ideas in a perfect setting. The well thought-out concept includes both innovative lithium disilicate keramil (LS) – especially for single-tooth restorations, and high-strength zirconium oxide for long-span bridges.

Thanks to a single layering ceramic for the entire system, you benefit from a consistent layering scheme and exact shade matching for combination work. e.max impresses with outstanding aesthetics and high strength.

Ceramic Fillings:

Fillings made of amalgam or gold fillings are no longer necessary: Empress ceramic fillings can no longer be distinguished from natural teeth.

ADVANTAGES OF EMPRESS (E.MAX) AT A GLANCE:

  • Optimal dental aesthetics: Best match to your own natural teeth and due to its strength, it requires minimal tooth preparation.
  • There is no metal alloy, meaning no unsightly gray line around gums.
  • Long lasting: E.max is strong, durable and unlikely to break
  • E.max crowns can withstand pressure from both the front teeth and the back teeth.
  • E.max is made from pure ceramics available in every color facet including Hollywood white.
  • high biocompatibility, good tissue friendliness, no intolerance reactions (also suitable for allergy sufferers)
  • No accumulation of plaque thanks to the smooth surface
  • non-corrosive, no reaction with metals in the oral cavity
  • Reduced thermal conductivity, protection of the tooth pulp (pulp) from chemical, thermal and mechanical stimuli

In summary, the following areas of application for Empress (E.Max) in dentistry can be identified:

  • Dental crown
  • Dental bridges
  • Implant abutments
  • Inlays, onlays, veneers
PORCELAIN VENEERS

PORCELAIN VENEERS FOR BEAUTIFUL TEETH

Porcelain veneers (also called ceramic veneers) are a tooth-preserving, aesthetic form of restoration in modern dentistry. Similar to a glued-on fingernail, discolored teeth, unsightly gaps, short or crooked teeth can be corrected with a veneer. This improves the overall impression of the teeth. A thin layer of the front of the tooth is removed so that the veneer can be bonded to the tooth without making it appear thicker.

Tips for a winning, beautiful smile

Porcelain veneers are a quick, aesthetic and safe way to correct unsightly front teeth. Veneers are the dentists’ preferred way to enhance your smile and improve your appearance.

The increasing popularity of veneers can be attributed to the advances in bonding methods and materials over the past 20 years. When performed by a qualified cosmetic dentist, your veneers can last 15 years or more with regular dental care.

What are Veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin, almost transparent veneers that are firmly bonded to the tooth. Veneers are durable, fade resistant and look natural. They are usually made of ceramic and are designed by your dentist specifically for your teeth, manufactured in a specialist laboratory, and then permanently attached to your teeth.

What speaks for Veneers?

  • Achieve a uniform, white, radiant smile with cosmetic products
  • Correction of crooked teeth
  • Correction of misaligned teeth
  • Improving tooth size or shape
  • Whiten discolored or darkened teeth
  • Closing unwanted or uneven tooth gaps
  • Restoration of worn or chipped teeth
  • Refreshing old crowns or bridges

Advantages of Veneers

  • Achieve an even, white, beautiful smile
  • Natural looking teeth
  • Good gum compatibility of ceramics
  • The patient can choose the color of the veneers and thus determine how white their smile will be.
  • Ceramic veneers are colorfast.
  • Veneers are very durable.
  • Hardly any tooth reduction (0.3 to 1.2 mm) necessary
COMPOSITE VENEERS

COMPOSITE VENEERING – AESTHETIC CORRECTIONS OF THE DENTAL FRONTS

Tooth substance destroyed by caries can usually be restored by the dentist with a filling, as is well known. But how can the dentist help if a corner of the incisor or an incisal edge has splintered or if there are enamel cracks? What can he do if the smile is affected by irregular tooth fronts? In the past, the teeth were often radically ground down and crowned because of such blemishes. Today’s veneer techniques make it possible to correct teeth much more gently. With direct veneering with composites, the dentist can often even do without grinding the teeth altogether.

What is composite and how does veneering work?

Composite is a tooth-colored, malleable dental material that is also used for classic fillings. In direct veneering, it is applied to the front of the teeth. The smooth tooth surface is only slightly roughened with a special solution so that the composite adheres better. In principle, however, no tooth substance needs to be ground down, so that composite veneering is a responsible solution even for small blemishes on healthy teeth. The treatment therefore poses no risk to the tooth.

INLAYS / ONLAYS CORRECTIONS

What are inlays / onlays?

Which type of filling is used and which material is used for it depends primarily on the extent of the damage to the tooth, which area of the natural tooth crown (e.g. the occlusal surface or the tooth neck) is affected or which tooth it is generally acts.

Rigid fillings in the form of inlays or onlays are used for medium to large caries damage to the molars.

INLAYS (“insert fillings”)

The term “inlay” comes from English and means something like “insert”, hence the alternative name “insert fillings”.

After the carious tooth substance has been removed, their shape is precisely adapted to the shape of the tooth and produced as a “rigid” filling. Once completed, they are inserted into the tooth in the same or a subsequent session. A liquid plastic or a special dental cement is used for this purpose. Ceramics, gold alloys and plastic (composite) are available as materials for inlays.

Precise adaptation to the shape of the tooth, fine tuning to the individual bite, and the compatibility and durability of the material are decisive factors for the quality of inlays. Careful dental care of the patient is also important for a long service life

ONLAYS (overlay or dome infills)

Onlays are used when molar teeth are affected by caries in addition to the chewing surface and one or more tooth cusps and are rebuilt (reconstructed). Because they reach over one or more humps, they are also referred to as “dome fillings”. In principle, onlays are manufactured in the same way as inlays.

BONDING

Bonding – Direct aesthetic tooth corrections

During bonding, our dentists apply a plastic material to the tooth, which is permanently fixed with the help of a special “adhesive” and high-energy light. It is then finished and polished – without removing the healthy tooth structure. The bonding technique can also be combined with fillings.

The bonding technique is the first choice, especially for minor corrections to the tooth position and shape of the front teeth:

  • gap closure
  •  Tooth lengthening of broken or crunched tooth edges
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Unattractive tooth shapes
  • Combined with fillings
  • Tooth stains and streaks

Permanent and maximum adhesion

Specially developed adhesive components ensure decades of permanent and maximum adhesion of the filling material. This procedure is also extremely gentle, since no removal of the tooth substance is necessary.

Compensation by bonding technique

If the shape of a tooth is corrected with a veneer, for example, the necessary slight adjustment to the neighboring tooth can be done gently using the bonding technique.

The transition from onlays to partial crowns (which also cover tooth cusps but do not belong to fillings) is “fluent”.
